Whenever there is an outbreak of any disease, fear often follows. The public is informed about these incidents and begins to worry, and in some cases, even panics. But where there is a disease, there are scientists working on a cure and chemists working on a method for prevention. In cases of harmful bacteria, we have disinfectants that can kill dangerous germs or help keep them from ever manifesting.
Legionnaires is the latest harmful bacteria to make itself known in an outbreak. This bacterium can lead to pneumonia. Though it is not contagious, you do get it from inhaling microscopic water droplets that contain legionella bacteria. Once a body of water is contaminated, it can be tough to get rid of.
When we say body of water, we are referring to a wide variety of water sources. Most cases of Legionnaires can occur in large buildings where a complex water system can allow bacteria to grow and spread faster. Other areas where the bacteria may be found include hot tubs, air conditioning units, decorative fountains, and mist sprayers located in the produce section of grocery stores.
There is no vaccine against legionella, but once the bacteria has been discovered, it can be killed. If an outbreak occurs, you’ll need to drain all of the water from the area affected and thoroughly disinfect the space. Our Fresh Breeze, A2Z, and One Step series of disinfectants will all work to kill any harmful bacteria.
When these outbreaks occur, Misco Products is here with disinfectants ready to remedy any situation.
